Setting up a PoE-powered PoE Switch

One of my favorite finds on Lazada is a PoE-powered PoE switch.

I only have a single Ethernet cable running across the ceiling from our main switch, and it’s difficult to run another one for an additional access point. This device helps my situation.

It’s a switch that is powered by PoE (802.3af/at). It can use up to 30 watts and can distribute 25 watts of power to connected devices while maintaining gigabit speeds.

Apart from not having to run another CAT6 cable, another benefit is that it’s connected to the main PoE switch that’s is powered by a UPS.

Today, I cut my only CAT6 cable at an accessible spot and installed the switch in between. This adds two additional PoE gigabit ports that I can use.

After cutting and crimping
Checking for network activity
Checking if access point speed is still gigabit

This was done in preparation for adding dedicated access points for our home’s IP cameras.
